More Great Design

We’re one week away from our Caroling on the Wharf event.  And I have a lot to do to get ready.

Which also means it’s time to give it a go with a second mailing.  We seemed to get a pretty good response from the first one, so here we go again.  The first one we did was for Harvest Festival and I shared our mailer piece here.

This time, my brother-in-law, Joel, worked up the mailer for us.  Same one that took the great pictures a few weeks ago.  I gave him an idea what we were going for and he worked this up in about an hour or so.  Check it out:

I was stoked with and look forward to getting out to the community.  Joel has his own company, two of twelve art design, 2//12,  he’s been using to do some graphic design work.  Here’s his portfolio.  You need him.  Go hire him.

Thanks Joel!

Now I’ll spend a lot of time this week getting the rest of this event together so the outcome is as good as the print piece!

1096

That was the name of a worship album put out at Revolution for the 3 year birthday.
It was the number of days in 3 years, including a leap year.
That’s not what this post is about.

That’s the number of emails in my inbox.
I have this issue with deleting emails, even when I’ve responded.  I’m like an email packrat I guess.
But I think I should just keep em stored in my trash file at the very least.
So my new goal will be to get it down to ZERO by 2008.

Do you think it can be done?

Impromptu Family Photos

Yesterday, after our turkey dinner (yes, we had our "Thanksgiving meal" on Friday) we all cruised down to "Blue Ball Park" with the family and the kids.

Rachel’s brother, Joel, I’ve mentioned before as a great photographer and graphic designer.  He had is camera with him and we ended up doin a quick impromptu photo shoot with our family.  Check out his handiwork.  These are some of my faves.

Thanks Joel!!

Thanksgiving 2007

How we spent out Thanksgiving.

First, meet out at Mission Hills Middle School for a game of tackle football.
A good reminder that I’m old and out of shape.
My body still hurts.

Then to the church.

For the past 25 years our church has done an annual community dinner.  A free meal for the homeless and needy in the community.
It started at 10 and there were already plenty of people in the parking lot waiting when I showed up around 9:45.  I don’t think we kept count, but we fed a LOT of people today.

I got to drive our 15 passenger van around Pac Ave and around the beach flats picking up and dropping off any homeless who wanted a free meal.  I wasn’t Img_3559_2
really that excited to do it.  It was one of the coolest things I’ve been able to do.  Getting to talk to these people during the ride.  Getting to learn their names.  The homeless are a huge percentage of our community here in Santa Cruz.
A good reminder to care for them as people more than just one day a year.

The rest of the day has been chilling with both our families at the house.  Rachel’s other brother and his fiance show up late tonight, so we’re doing the typical Thanksgiving as a family tomorrow

How was your Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving Equation

4 Marchessaults
plus
4 Beukelmans
plus
3 Farmers
plus
1 Giardinelli
plus a dog
divided by
1 small 2 bedroom house
and a 1975 motor home
equals
my Thanksgiving weekend…
and a lot of chaos.

But it says a lot about our families that Rachel and I are both excited to have both our in-laws together at our home.
We’re thankful for great family!

Hope your having a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Chuck Approves, Why Not You?

OK, I think I’ve had a grand total of like 1 other political post here in the history of this blog.  It’s something that I can get opinionated about, but I learned several years back that it wasn’t worth arguing about.  If I’m gonna ruffle feathers, I’d rather do it with a topic that can really change lives.  You know, like Jesus.

However, this one was just too good to pass up.  And as a result of the video embedded below – that I just had to share – you are going to get a rare peek into the Bobby’s head on this blog regarding his political opinions.

As of now, I’ve been completely disappointed with the prospects for the upcoming presidential race.

Hillary – not a chance.  Enough said.
Obama – like him as a person.  Seem authentic, passionate, etc.  Unfortunately, I just can’t back his politics.
Rudy – he’s basically a conservative democrat running as a republican.  Don’t know that I see a whole lot of difference between him and the "opposition."

Now, disclaimer time.  Fact is, I haven’t done my homework and don’t know enough about the candidates.  That is just what I perceive from those candidates and I’m not excited.  However, I know there are some others that I don’t know much about that I’d like to learn about.

The one I’ve heard tossed around that I’ve been most interested to hear more from is Mike Huckabee.
Mike has a killer "ad agency."
I don’t think I need to learn anymore.
This video may secure my vote!

Leadership Quote

I appreciated this quote shared at the beginning of the "First Impressions" workshop with Mark Waltz this past week.  It was in regards to leadership.  See what you think:

Leaders can’t help but change the present, because the present isn’t good enough.
-Marcus Buckingham

You ever feel that way?
I know I do.
Sometimes it feels like a fine line between being a leader and a judgmental jerk-hole.
It’s a good reminder.  Sometimes it’s OK.  It’s what pushes us to do better.

Venti Or Grande?

CoffeeI’m what you would probably call a "casual coffee drinker."  I’ll have a fufu coffee drink with a friend or on my own while working at a coffee shop.  Unlike most of our staff, who on the other hand need to shoot coffee directly into their veins several times a day.

That being the case, the amount of caffeine in espresso probably has a greater effect on my body.  Which brings me to my point.

I’m sitting here at Coffee Cat.  I decided to venture away from my typical white chocolate mocha and get a mint white chocolate "cool cat."  Yeah, I know, huge leap.  There are 2 sizes of cool cats.  I opted for the larger.

Now, I feel like I seriously need to go run laps around the parking lot or I may spontaneously combust in my seat.  I think my heart rate is up, my eyes are wide open, and I can’t stop shaking.

I need to get out of my seat and move.  But I HAVE to get this budget done today.

NOTE TO SELF:
Always get the smaller coffee!
