It's been a while since Tri To Lose ended. Haven't been focused much n my weight. That's part of why I decided to do 2 Triathlons this summer. I almost didn't post this cause it's kinda embarrassing. But in the true spirit of authenticity and accountability, here's the latest update:
I made it down to 155 before, but my goal is to eventually hit 150. We'll see how it goes as I get ready for some Triathlons.
Shortly after moving to Santa Cruz, my wife and I went for a hardcore health kick. South Beach was the diet of choice. Over a year ago I tried the Blogger Big Butt Weight Loss Challenge. I started at 179 lbs. Then we started Tri To Lose. I started that around 172 lbs. I finished at around 155lbs. Then I slacked, not to mention the holidays hit and people brought by all sorts of goodies to the office everyday. So Rachel and I have talked about going back to the first phase of the South Beach diet. This morning I weighed myself. It was depressing. The outcome? It hurts to type it. I don't know if I can do it. Fine... 168.4 lbs.
Ouch.
Back to phase one. This time I'm racing all the way down to 150! It was nice knowing you Carbs. Anyone else add some pounds over the holidays?
*Disclaimer: While I will go back to hardcore dieting with some exercise mixed in, I am going here in a month and will be exempt for one week. You can't visit the south and not enjoy the food!
Well, if any of you missed it last month, our Tri To Lose weight loss challenge came to an end over a month ago, which is why you haven't seen videos of me on the scale every Wednesday anymore. And for those of you that didn't watch the final video, here were the final results:

FINAL WEIGH IN: 155.6 lbs. Grand Total Lost: 17.6 lbs.
In the end, with an extra gift or two and all said and done, Rachel and I raised about $684.00! (I say about cause there's a small amount that we still have to calculate and send in cause we forgot about it when we wrote the check.)
Add that to Mr. and Mrs. Transition Pete's $186.00 the final Grand Total brought in by Tri To Lose was... $870.00!!!!
That's awesome you guys! Below is a video of me heading up to San Francisco to an Invisible Children screening to give them our part. But first, a couple of thank you's to y'all from some of the peeps at Invisible Children:
"What Bobby and his friends are doing is incredible. Taking the stories of the Invisible Children lives and applying it to a physical discipline is what a life change is truly about. Thank you to everyone who helped raise money... I hope that one day you are able to travel to Northern Uganda and see just how far $684 will go on the ground. You are changing lives both near and far! Thank you and God Bless."
-Jason Russell Invisible Children founder/filmmaker, in an e-mail
"This is a brilliant idea. I applaud your sacrifice and ingenuity. Thank you for such dedication to the invisible children.
Love wins always,"
-Bobby Bailey
Invisible children Founder/ Filmmaker, in a comment left on Tri To Lose intro post
"I wanted to let you know how much you truly ARE blessing Invisible Children. You are doing exactly what we labor for and more importantly, what God delights in. THANK YOU! And Praise God! Be encouraged and know that God is really being glorified by your efforts—in Uganda and even within the IC staff.
"[This] blog is spreading around our office and we LOVE it. Please stay in touch with us and keep us updated on your efforts. Continue praying for Uganda as well."
-Lisa Dougan Invisible Children Movement Regional Manager, in an email
I share those mainly because they really are thanks to all of you. Know that giving to such a worthy cause, even a little bit, can make a difference. ANd it is appreciated by those receiving it! Once again, thank you all!! And don't stop there. Keep informed on what's happening in Uganda, do something about it, and find other places in the world that you are passionate about and make a difference there, too. Your street is a good place to start! ;)
So, here's a final video to give a little bit of closure to the whole Tri To Lose challenge. Enjoy!
Well, today is the final weigh in. For Tri To Lose. And you're gonna have to watch the video for the details! Then go ahead and click the donation button below. I'm looking forward to being able to bless Invisible Children with a big chunk of change from all of our efforts.
Anyway, go ahead and check out the video for the final weigh in:
So there ya have it. We were able to raise $440+ here at this blog alone. Thanks again to all of you who sponsored. And I encourage you to feel free to give a little even if you didn't. It's a great chance to hand over a big chunk of resources from our community here online. If the link above is too difficult for you, shoot me an email so we can work it out.
Be sure to stop by Rachel's blog to see where she ended up. And I know Pete hasn't updated recently, but swing by and see if he has his final numbers up as well. (Pressures on Pete! ;)) I don't think anyoneelse stuck with it, but if I'm wrong...let me know!!!
Tri To Lose ends tomorrow. Hopefully the video with the final weigh in will be up tomorrow, but no promises. (I do have a job people! ;)) Also still trying to figure out how to get Paypal setup to collect it all so we can hook Invisible Children up with a sweet donation.
A couple months ago they had an event I mentioned briefly on here called Displace Me. As our little effort here comes to an end, check out this video to see what happened at that event:
Go to the website. Learn more about how you can get involved. If you're in Santa Cruz, join a meeting at the Representatives office downtown this Friday. Hopefully, more about that tomorrow. If you're here and interested, email me for more info. Let's make a difference. Thanks.
It's been pretty quiet around here this week, I know. It's been a pretty busy week with a lot goin on. So I'll just give you one nice, lengthy post to recap the week. We'll go bulleted style, so maybe it won't be too lengthy. Here's some of the highlights (and lowlights):
Watched the Moscow circus down at the Boardwalk. We're cheap...parked free downtown and walked a mile to get there.
Finished our first Life Group leader training with a final potluck. Groups are launching the week after Labor Day with another cluster launching in October.
Booed Bonds hitting #756 while at said potluck. That didn't make me very popular.
Ordered a whole bunch of new equipment and scheduled getting some better speakers hung and our santuary tuned up.
I gained some weight. Bummer. Check out the video here to see how much.
I got my free copy of Photoshop! Was working on Life Group sign up stuff and thought I'd goof around real quick and send Ed and Julie to The Bahamas. They deserve it!
Lost another Softball game. We could very well go winless this season. '68 Bucs!
Visited a local aquarium with Rachel and Caleb for this weeks Play Group. My first time at play Group. (Haven't actually done that yet, but by the time you read this, I probably have!)
For more info and what not, check out the new page I tossed together to explain the Tri To Lose deal, just for those of you who maybe haven't been around too long.
