I am a previous iphone owner for almost 2 years. Some good thing with them but if you need to get businedd done and use it for work then the new curve 8900 is the way to go. Calling over wifi rocks. Keyboard typing faster. Music player is great improvement. I am a mac owner. Wish blackberry and apple would build a phone together.

I know I'm REALLY late with this, but crapberry does suck. It's awful. Not only is its control scheme not intuitive, it's counterintuitive and just plain doesn't work. It's a bad phone, a bad email device, and a truly horrible web browser. It tries to do everything and sucks at all of them. And my company is such a gang of Luddites that it refuses to support the iPhone and "has no plans to do so." So I'm stuck with this cheap POS. Yay!

I know I'm a bit late, but the BlackBerry does suck. I could go on and on listing the deficiencies, but let's get to the point - Blackberry rested to long, secure that it would remain the #1 device. Using a BB is like going back in time to 1995, when emails were plain text and web sites were static.
When asking about the useless BB web browser, I'm often told that BB is an EMAIL device, and that I should appreciate how good it is. I can tell you that it is not good - all very basic, and many messages can't be read at all. Why hasn't BB kept up?
Leaving browsing and email aside, the other apps are seriously lacking. Once again, everything looks like it was written in 1995 - really basic. The calendar is almost unusable, I could probably write the task app myself and let's not even talk about the rest.
I can sum up by saying that a BlackBerry will not surprise you with what it does well (nothing), and will certainly surprise you with how basic and almost useless it is.
Even if they get better in the future, WHY buy from a company that only improves when they are finally faced with competition. I regret having to use this ugly, useless brick every day because of my Verizon contract. Just 1 1/2 years to go and I'll be free!

I owned my BB 8310 for about 4 months and decided to give it to my kid to play with. It's not a totally stupid phone but it's not a very smart one either. IPhone is to rocket-science as BB is to drawing on a cave wall with a burnt stick.

Well, I am blackberry pearl user. I have to agree 8100 sucks. BUt I love 8120. It works great for me, RIM did quite a few improvements on new pearl... and I did use iPhone for few weeks... Well, iPhone is quite ugly and huge buttonless device that drove me crazy!! Only good part about it is safari... To me pearl is perfect is because of its size and yet it has qwerty keyboard. iPhone sized smartphones just don't work for me. So, in conclusion oi say author's compaints about pearl 8100 are fair, but I haven't had any problems with 8120 (neither on mac os 10.4.9 nor on windows xp SP2 I refuse to use vista) and hey, unlike iPhone, pearl has card reader! (yes in 8100 it's in crappy location, but in 8120 RIM fixed that)

Hey, I love mine, but I have verizon. Mine was doing this memory leakage thing. But they sent me a new phone and it's good now. I use the same sync as William Genesis up there. I've never had a JVM either. Sorry, but I am going to wait for another two years when verizon releases the iphone. I won't go with any other service.
Thinking of ya today....
