odd? hmmm... probably when I was at a night of worship where they played one song, had someone speak for 5 minutes, played another song and had someone speak for 5 minutes, so on and so forth, etc., etc. It was very annoying, especially for someone who came to worship (not that that wasn't worship... ahh... you know what I mean!).
We actually use secular songs quite a bit at our Church. Almost one every week. They're used to setup the message. They're not really meant to be sing along or even what you might call a "worship" song. They're separate from the "worship" time and they're usually very well known songs that relate to the message.
This week we did a Five for Fighting song called "Superman". Check it out... http://www.ericbeeman.com

Bobby, I think you described it best...just 'odd'. And I do think I would have left the building, and went and had a different worship experience. hehe
The oddest thing I've ever experienced? I do remember one time sitting in a worship service, having just led worship for four services that weekend, and finally getting to a place where I could just sit and worship the Lord. It was one of the most intimate worship experiences of my life. And then having the percussionist grab one of his bongo mics and scream into it that whoever was not standing was in sin and dishonoring what God had done for them.
That was odd....and annoying.

what... I don't get it. Isn't there a verse in the Bible about spinning your sock as unto the Lord?
(I wonder how that smelled?)

Can we do this at church on Sunday?
I was thinking maybe you can redo the lyrics of "Every Rose has its Thorns".
What do you think?

Welcome to the world of Rick Pino.
Some ways we worship are better off left off Youtube. I can tell you that I've been at some pretty amazing times of worship that had they been captured on Youtube, we would have looked like a bunch of kooks.
I've been under Rick's leadership as a worship leader before, and it doesn't even compare to Leonard Jones, Suzy Yarei, and some of the other MorningStar folks.
Even at the church we grew up at - we would have a celebration service after people got free of major bondages. Those services got CRAZY, but when people had struggled with sexual sin, hurt, abuse, anger, jealousy, etc and finally got free of it, you can imagine their worship was quite exuberant.
For me personally, it would probably be a worship conference I went to where we were "yelling." Looking back now with the banners/flags/dancing/painting/etc. I'm sure it was pretty crazy.
I actually love his arrangement of the song, and if I had a youth group, I might just try it... (seems like it's working pretty well for him)
