Scenery as in: This is what it’s like down here. Those people are an unfortunate part of the scenery. Machine as in: The checker at the grocery store is part of the machine that accomplishes my goal of getting stuff. How often do I stop to engage: waiter, checker, those in line with me, etc. Sadly, they are a part of my scenery more often than I like to admit. I can be surrounded by humans & not see people. No bien.
